A loss of constructivist architectural building in Ankara

The building in the picture was one of the examples of the constructivism in Ankara - Turkey.  It was a strainer (süzgeç in Turkish) building and an early example of modern architecture in modern Republic of Turkey. Unfortunately it is demolished to build a hospital building of a private university. Despite it was a conservated building, without any permission from the conservation council, destruction started in one night. It is said that the building should be protected as an industrial historical heritage. To preserve the building the applicants to the conservation council has been made by the Ankara chamber of architects in may 2013. But the destruction started without waiting for the consequence from the conservation council. As everyone else I am thinking that such behaviours are ideologic and aims to destroy all remaining buildings from the early Turkish Republican period...

In the early Republic Period lots of modern architectural buildings have been built all over the country. To Construct the modern Turkey modern architecture and constructivist style was chosen to give the image of being contemporary to the world. Especially as the new capital city of the country, Ankara was donated with lots of public and industrial buildings. The strainer building was one of them and have been built in 1936. it furnish services for a long time to filter the water of the "çubuk-1" dam which was also built at the same time in Ankara. I was really sad about that because such buildings in our country unfortunately is not conserved very well. I hope it will be possible to protect such remaining buildings from government annuities in the future.

Constructivist Shape of the building. Semi circular plan sheme and the tower resembles the constructivist period buildings in Russia. The geometric composition gives a strong constructivist impression.
